Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) – Identify Friendly (IF) requirement
U.S. forces need the capability to identify coalition forces’ sUAS during training and operations.
Coalition forces currently lack the ability to identify friendly Group I and II UAS to distinguish them from similar enemy sUAS. This inability to perform basic IF while de-conflicting operations places both the sUAS and the ground operator in danger of potential fratricide. The seeker is looking for a low cost, simple system that provides IF capability without actively emitting and a low probability of detection from enemy forces. The solution must be easily integrated onto or into existing Group I and II UAS. The solution should not require significant power to operate, negatively impact flight time or operations, and be rapidly identifiable through current detection/interrogation means. The solution should be easily deployed or changed as needed.
